SAS International Dallas Outlines How to Attack a Job Search
SAS International, an executive career marketing and management firm based in Dallas believes there is only one good reason to conduct a career marketing campaign…to find a position that advances your career!
Finding a career position is different than finding a job. You must design and execute a comprehensive career planning process.
SAS International urges job seekers to provide examples of past successes and identify the skills that were used to accomplish them. As a result, a clear Career Objective is discovered. In short, the product is now defined and you are now ready to begin preparing to market and sell that product. It is important that you keep the following points in mind:
- Your next employer can hire only your FUTURE; that is all you have to sell. You must be prepared to prove your potential in interviews. You will be successful if you have prepared sufficient achievements which demonstrate effectiveness in using your critical skills.
- Job holders do not really like jobseekers! When you ask for a job, the odds are better than 10-to-1 that you will be turned down. It makes no sense to ask for a rejection, so do not ask for a job. You need help from others to secure a position, so the manner in which you seek that help requires careful handling.
- Look for the best in each interview. Preparing for an interview is crucial. Never go into an interview without an objective and agenda. Maintain a positive attitude and show your appreciation for the opportunity to interview. Candidates showing a lack of appreciation are generally not hired. If you believe that you are in danger of being turned down for a position where you can make a tremendous contribution, do not give up. Be persistent and tactful in selling yourself.
- Good jobs do exist! If a job is work that needs to be done, then all companies in the industry you are targeting need to have that work done - even if they have not identified and posted that position. Your assignment is to find the person responsible for overseeing that work, prove to him/her that you are capable of doing the required tasks and negotiate to take over the tasks that you are able and willing to assume.
- People with Career Paths know where they are going. Planning can mean job security and progress. They know that permanently settling for a meaningless, non-satisfying job is the first step toward settling in a rut. They recognize that a temporary (bridge, tide-over, or stop-loss) position might lead to greater opportunities. If not, they continue working towards that satisfying, challenging, rewarding position with adequate income, career satisfaction, and success.
